Who was St. Patrick?

St. Patrick was a bishop who lived in the late 4th and early 5th century and helped spread Christianity to Ireland. Many myths exist about him most famously that he rid Ireland of all snakes. There are no snakes in the wild in Ireland.

Although the holiday began as a religious occasion and is still marks by attending church in Ireland, it’ s primary function now is to allow Irish people to celebrate their rich culture & heritage & to allow people from all cultures to celebrate with them.

Ireland is known as the Emerald isle because of its great beauty and green landscape. The national colour is green and it is therefore traditional to wear green on St. Patrick’ s Day.
